I was reading an article during the week about SAD (Seasonal Affective disorder). Some people report craving carbohydrates, feeling lethargic and struggling to get out of bed in the morning. As this happens when light diminishes each year. It begins around now, and if you are are prone to this condition then it’s there until Spring. Quite a long time to live with it each year. Here’s an article from the NHS worth reading. If light and mood are part of a cycle of triggered by seasonal change how can you best Prepare your body & mind for colder, darker times?
There are lots of studies to show that pranayama, yoga, a morning walk can all help with getting your mind in a calm & centred space. Engaging actively in the world with diet, sleep, exercise & social interaction helps to reset your circadian rhythms.
If you wake feeling a bit crap, take a nice long inhale, pause for a moment then exhale for a little bit longer than your inhale. Do this a few times before you rise out of bed. Then place your hands on your heart centre or abdomen and say I love you. It’s a difficult time of year for our bodies to transition from Summer energy to Winter energy, be kind to yourself, be kind to those around you.
