Feelings, thoughts & emotions

Mountains

I’m back in Ireland, having had a wonderful week with my kids. We were so lucky to take some time away, to take in everything mountain energy offers. The quality of air, the nervousness of looking down 1000s of metres, the exhilaration of just going for it, of being brave. The humbling of the ego when your child looks on while you tumble head first into snow.

Then the world felt shattered and felt surreal as I read the papers. All the emotions of joy and fun left me. Trying to unpack those feelings (Feelings, the link between emotion and body and sensations in the body and concepts in the mind) I felt like falling into an abyss. The nervous system is designed to orchestrate all the processi of the body. So what I was feeling was a normal reaction.

We are coming out of one stressful time and it looks like the world is tunnelling into another period of darkness. Kids may be stressed out by all of this, it’s important we respond with information they can process. Teenagers especially will want to know more, they are getting information on social media so we need to have the conversation and be kind to them they are trying to process it and it’s tough.

I hope this quote helps when talking to kids – it reminds me that humans are by nature good and kind. We humans can do terrible things but that there is always hope and so the body and mind can use hope to respond to what’s going on.

Let our choices follow our hopes rather than our fears

Love to you all & moon lessons

Happy Valentine’s Day, I am writing this in the darkness of the early morning. The day light has yet to appear, but I know it’s there just hiding behind the clouds waiting for her brilliance to shine through. Bringing with it love bombs of another Valentine’s day.

The energy of this Valentine’s day is dominated by the full moon rising on Tuesday but will be fullest on Wednesday. The beauty of a full moon is that it holds such significance on the path of yoga. The full moon, purnima in Sanskrit, is a symbol of the fullness of our inner selves. It reminds us of the perfection that lies within each human being, even when it’s not fully apparent. So just like the day light this morning is still hidden from view. The beauty that resides in every soul, every sentient being is there.

Wednesday evening class this week will include a full moon ritual, here’s what you will need –

Pen, paper, candle, dish to place burned paper, blanket and your full self. Please share this with others who are interested in moon related ceremonies, it would be really appreciated.

Coming to class this week –

Sticking to your New Year plans????

Hello lovelies, those blue skies are amazing at the moment. I can’t help but smile every time I look out and see the sun. Thank you for all your messages about your sunrise and sunshine moments this January, honestly it’s been wonderful to learn how many of you are embracing the sunshine and getting outside.

So other than amazing blue skies and sticking (or not) to resolutions how has the New Year worked out so far? To be honest January went so fast in our house. We moved back into our home before Christmas, loads of decision were made, some stuff still not done. I am still waiting on a floor for my yoga room and can’t wait to get back in there to teach & to practice & share the space with those who wish to enjoy private classes.

This month we are dipping into lots of twists, seated, standing, balancing. Twists are great to untie physical and psychological knots. A really juicy twist can access the deepest layer of back muscle, those small muscles that sit on the side of the spine. The more you practice twists, the more you realise they are not just about releasing physical parts of the body but also about releasing tension, anxiety and worry.

Here’s a twist to try at home –

Ardha Matsyendrasana

Sit on the floor with your legs crossed

Pick up the right knee and place the right foot to the outside of the left thigh, knee or by the hip. Just make sure all the toes of the right foot are on the ground.

Place the right hand on the ground outside the right hip for support. Make sure both sits bones are rooted down to your mat.

Inhale, lift the left hand as you exhale place the elbow on the outside of the right knee. Press the knee and elbow together. Tune into how this feels.

Turn your head to the right, but keep in the mind the twist here is in the torso not the neck so please be safe and turn the head safely.

Inhale, lengthen the body, exhale as you twist a little more.

To come out of the pose move your arms first then unravel the body. Repeat on the other side.

Enjoy x

Testimonials

I was so sad and sorry when my last yoga teacher decided to move home to Italy. I thought I would never find a better teacher & then… I found Chris. She delivers a wonderfully unique class which is a marriage of movement and breath. Her class delivers a complete workout for whatever level you’re at, whilst being easy on the body and calming the mind. I look forward to every class and have never felt stronger or better.

Christine conveys an immense passion for yoga. Her energy is palpable. She also has a discerning understanding of how the body works when practicing yoga. I really enjoy her classes which leave me feeling full of positivity!

Christine is a great yoga teacher and I recommend you give her a go.  She is very spiritual but her love of family and her surroundings come through clearly in her teaching - I have wished so many times to be with her in Dublin on the beach, in the studio, in the park! I have loved her classes via Zoom and her early morning Rise and Shine class has been a fantastic start to my day.  She is very knowledgeable and clearly puts a lot into planning each month and each week. Her classes are well prepared and she takes time to explain positions with variations too so that it is suitable for many levels. Having practised with her for 6 months, she keeps her practice interesting with different themes so that no 2 classes are completely the same.  I am loving my yoga journey with her and look forward to it continuing for many years.

N. Roberts

Absolutely love Chris’s yoga classes. It has become a staple part of my week to keep my mind clear and my body right. Chris is a fantastic teacher and I especially enjoy her meditation and reflections during class. Chris herself is such a fantastic person both inside and out and her light is infectious!
